Stop Waiting for the 'Perfect Time'...There Isn't One!

You cannot afford to wait for perfect conditions. Goal setting is often a matter of balancing timing against available resources. Opportunities are easily lost while waiting for perfect conditions.
— Gary Ryan Blair

If you had to define the “Perfect Time” what would it look like? Would all your finances be in order? Would your children have already grown up and moved out? Would you have just graduated from school with a degree that you are happy about? Would you be in the best shape of your life? What would it take for you to believe that you are experiencing the perfect time to pursue your life’s wildest dreams?

Perfect timing is a lie, and if I am being honest, it is just another excuse we tell ourselves to give us more time to put off what we want.

We all do it. There is not one person out there that hasn’t procrastinated their life at some point because ‘the timing didn’t feel right’ to them. There are two kinds of people out there: Those who live in the moment, and those who are always searching for the perfect one. I am guilty of being in the latter more times than I care to admit, but as I have gotten older and slowly started to achieve the goals I have set for myself, I have learned that it was always ‘perfect timing’ that was holding me back from getting what I want. We look for signs as ways of validation for what we are doing or wanting to do when maybe, the sign has been there all along. Have you ever had a good idea for something, but then told yourself in due time you will follow through with it? Here is a thought: The good idea was your ‘sign’ and you should pursue it right then and there. The timing between the idea of what we want and when we go after it is simply just fear disguised as, “the timing just isn’t right.” Look at it this way: no matter when you decide to pursue something, the time will pass regardless, so stop wasting anymore waiting for the ‘perfect time’.

It is easy to get lost in this idea that one day we will find this so-called ‘sign’ that says, “NOW IS IT! Now is the time to pursue that thing you can’t stop thinking about!” I mean, that would be great; Stumbling across something addressed specifically to you that says you should go for it. If that were a real scenario, would that actually be enough for us to dive head first into the life we want for ourselves? More importantly, why are we so hell-bent on needing permission from time to do something we want? I get being scared to fail, or fearful that we will never live up to the scenario we have created in our own minds, but to never pursue it all, or wait for the cards to line up perfectly, well, that is an even scarier risk to take, and one you should never wait for.

The timing is never right. Period. Timing just is. It is the one thing that never stops going, never stops moving forward, and never stops to wonder what we think about it. We obsess over the timing of things, such as relationships, career paths, education, starting a family, moving to new places, eating healthier, basically, anything we want for ourselves. So, why is it that right now is never good enough for us to pursue what we know can make us happier, or more fulfilled? Forget fear for a second, and forget the possibility of failing; instead, realize that you are reading this right now because you want more for yourself. Realize that by clicking on this article, you already know deep down that you should be pursuing what it is that you want.

I am not writing this post in hopes that you see it as a ‘sign’ for your life. I am writing this post because I want you to acknowledge that the start of your own life has always, and always will, begin with YOU. Not because some article told you that you should start now. The moral of this story is that we need to stop believing in the idea of “Perfect Timing.” You are given one life to make the impact that you want to make, and there is no better time than the one you are in because, at the end of the day, that is all we ever have.

Take that chance.

Put yourself out there.

Write down your goals.

Put one foot in front of the other.

Stop waiting for the ‘Perfect Time.’

Start your life now!
